Dearomatization with Axial-to-Central Chirality Conversion

Aromatic atropisomers, that is to say aromatic compounds that exhibit chirality because of a hindered rotation around the bond linking them to one of their substituents, have recently received an increased interest, both as synthetic targets and as molecules of interest for applications as catalysts or in medicinal chemistry. However, despite the easier access to diversified enantioenriched aromatic atropisomers, considering them as substrates is not very frequent, notably in the context of dearomatization reactions. It is even more regrettable, as such transformations can deliver enantioenriched original motifs through an axial-to-central chirality conversion. The goal of this review is to provide a general overview of dearomative transformations of aromatic atropisomers to help the synthetic chemists c ommunity identifying new potential research directions in this subfield. 1 | Introduction The significance of chiral molecules, notably cyclic molecules, no longer needs to be demonstrated, making the discovery of new strategies to develop stereocontrolled reactions still of high interest in organic and medicinal chemistry. The latest decades have seen tremendous developments of enantioselective methodologies, and the importance of those contributions have been recognized by the attribution of several Nobel Prizes, notably the one given to Knowles, Noyori, and Sharpless in 2001 [1–3], or the one given to List and MacMillan in 2021 [4, 5]. The vast majority of those methodolog

Pseudo-Dribbling Experience Using Single Overlapped Vibrotactile Stimulation Simultaneously to the Hand and the Feet

When designing a haptic interface, simplicity is crucial to avoid negative effects caused by excessive weight and complexity. Using multimodal information, haptic illusions, and providing context are known to create simpler interfaces. We have previously proposed the use of single overlapped vibrotactile stimulation (SOVS) for presenting spatiotemporal tactile perception, a method that simultaneously presents overlapped waveforms to multiple body parts. There, the acceleration measured from a person dribbling a basketball with an accelerometer positioned on the index finger and the floor was overlapped to present as stimuli. When the stimuli were presented simultaneously to the hand and the feet, it demonstrated a dribbling sensation, like an imaginary ball movin g back and forth between the hand and the feet. This demonstrated the potential to eliminate the need for time synchronization and reduce the number of required channels, ultimately leading to the development of simple haptic interfaces that enhance an immersive experience. In this paper, we aim to investigate the key factor behind the perception of SOVS using simple vibrotactile stimuli. The first experiment measured the occurrence rate of the dribbling feeling for different combinations of prepared stimuli, and the results show that the combination of two different input amplitudes is crucial for the occurrence rate of the phenomenon. The second experiment assessed how realistic each stimulus, presented to the han

Exploring the impacts of greenwashing on green business model innovation: the mediating effect of green organizational identity and opportunism

Purpose – Green business model innovation (GBMI) has become an essential strategy for companies seeking to balance profitability with environmental sustainability. Nevertheless, implementing GBMI is difficult and demands significant organizational investments. Rather than making substantial changes, many companies greenwash to boost their public image. While greenwashing is widely recognized as a common practice, there is limited understanding of its impact on GBMI’s effectiveness. Thus, this study aims to explore the relationship between greenwashing and GBMI, focusing on the construction sector. Design/methodology/approach – The research hypotheses were formulated based on the theoretical foundations of organizational learning and organizational culture th eories. A questionnaire was developed to collect data from 142 Vietnamese construction practitioners, and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings – The results indicated that greenwashing negatively affects GBMI, with this relationship being partially mediated by opportunism and green organizational identity. Originality/value – This study underscores the urgent need for construction firms to focus on genuine environmental practices rather than greenwashing. For policymakers, the findings emphasize the importance of reinforcing regulations and enforcement to combat greenwashing and promote authentic sustainability in the construction sector.

A Cross-Sectional Study on Prevalence and Risk Factors of Social Anxiety Disorder among Pharmacy Students

: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) represents a significant mental health concern affecting academic performance and social functioning among college students. A cross-sectional study was conducted at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Jaipur National University, to evaluate the prevalence of SAD and associated risk factors among pharmacy students. The study included 216 students aged 17-25 years, selected through systematic random sampling. The Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS) questionnaire was employed as the primary assessment tool, along with a demographic questionnaire capturing potential risk factors. Results indicated that 47.7% of participants met the diagnostic criteria for SAD, with 25% exhibiting severe symptoms and 22.68% showing moderate sympt oms. The prevalence was higher among females (53%) compared to males (42%) and more common in the 21-25 age group. The main risk factors identified included prior mental health issues (19.44%), bullying experiences (21.29%), family conflicts (11.57%), and stage fear (56.48%). No significant correlation was observed between SAD and academic performance. The high prevalence of SAD among pharmacy students necessitates implementation of targeted mental health interventions and support systems within educational institutions. Keywords: Social Anxiety Disorder; SIAS Questionnaire; Pharmacy Students; Mental Health; Risk Factors. 1. Introduction Social anxiety disorder (SAD), also known as social phobia, re

Understanding the behavioural drivers of mindful consumption: a study on the use of sustainable menstrual products

Purpose – The adverse environmental impacts of menstrual products are a significant concern because of their widespread use and non-biodegradability. With various global and regional initiatives on sustainability, there is now greater public awareness about environmental protection. This heightened awareness has resulted in the exploration of alternative methods to reduce waste, such as the development and use of sustainable menstrual products. This study aims to examine the factors that influence Indian women’s purchasing intention in relation to sustainable menstrual products. The study uses the Stimulus–Organism– Behavior–Consequence (SOBC) theory as the appropriate grounded theory to explain these determinants. Design/methodology/approach – Cross- sectional data were collected from 720 women who have been using sustainable menstrual products. For analysing the model, the study performed structural equation modelling using AMOS. Findings – The study’s results indicated that health consciousness, sustainability knowledge and environmental responsibility are positively associated with self-identity and mindfulness. Additionally, the study found that organism states have a positive impact on the purchase intention of sustainable menstrual products. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship observed between purchase intention and mindful consumption. The study also discovered significant positive relationships between satisfaction and key associations. Originality/value – This study may be considered pioneering, as it establishes a connection between the usage of sustainable menstrual products and concepts such as mindfulness and mindful consumption.
